About Francis Ssuubi.
As a young man, Francis Ssuubi always aspired to achieve greatness, guided by his faith in God. Francis Ssuubi is a versatile person who serves as a social entrepreneur, educationist, charitable worker, Christian missionary, and a thought leader on issues concerning children of incarcerated parents and their parents in prison. Francis is the founder of Wells of Hope Ministries, a Christian organization dedicated to providing
effective and compassionate programs for prisoners and their families, with a particular focus on children with incarcerated parents, especially those whose parents are on death row or serving long-term sentences.
Francis Founded Wells of Hope Ministries in May 2002 while detained in Murchison Bay prison Luzira, Uganda, where he spent 68 days due to fabricated charges. During his incarceration, Francis witnessed firsthand the anguish of inmates who were concerned about the well-being of their children in their communities, who were unable to receive the parental love and care that they would have provided if they were not incarcerated. While in prison, Francis received a divine call from God to establish Wells of Hope Ministries, and it was during his imprisonment that the organization was founded.
Since 2004, Francis has been working tirelessly to create and implement positive interventions for children with a parent in prison. Francis has attended or spoken at several high-level events, including a key event on September 11, 2013, during the 24th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, where he was a panelist on a UN panel discussion on the human rights of children of parents on death row or executed at Palais des Nations, Geneva.
Francis believes that issues affecting children of prisoners are transnational and require a collaborative effort from stakeholders worldwide to address this issue. This conviction led Francis to found the International Coalition for Children with Incarcerated Parents (INCCIP) in May 2015. On May 7, 2015, in Dallas, Texas, US, Francis, along with other practitioners, academics, and human rights activists, launched INCCIP. Francis currently serves as the INCCIP Global Ambassador. Francis is a modern-day world changer, a catalyst for human transformation who is highly capable of initiating and accelerating dynamic transformation within a system, whether its an individual, a community, an organization, or society as a whole. Francis takes great pleasure in witnessing impoverished individuals, particularly women and children, who are affected by injustice and the failing criminal justice system, receive assistance that can positively transform their lives in a sustainable way!
Guided by the vision that God can elevate anyone from a low position to a higher position, from a nobody to somebody, Francis believes in taking action rather than merely rhetoric when it comes to
reaching out and uplifting the marginalized in society. He is guided by the words of Jesus Christ in Matthew 25:36,I was in prison and you came to Me.; Francis believes that we are all human, equal, and special before we become anything else, and as such, we deserve to be treated with love, kindness, and dignity. A hard-working and committed individual, Francis has established global partnerships with several individuals globally, where he has continually advocated for the rights of children who have a parent in prison.
